City attending to electricity outages caused by strong wind

The City of Cape Town is currently experiencing a high volume of electricity service requests across the metro. This is due to the strong winds experienced across the metro that is causing damage to electricity infrastructure. We expect these windy conditions to continue during the course of this weekend and we thank our customers for their patience and understanding.

There are a number of areas across the metro, which are currently experiencing unplanned outages due to the wind as for instance, trees are uprooted or branches are entangled in power lines. These areas include Parow/Glenlily, Constantia, Goodwood, Panorama, Kensington, Claremont, Lansdowne, Glenmore, Browns Farm, Gugulethu and Welgemoed. Our teams are attending to these.

‘Area outages might take longer to restore, as a direct result of the high number of electricity faults across the metro. COVID-19 regulations also continue to have an impact on operations. City teams will continue to do everything in their power to attend to the outages in the shortest possible time.

‘We thank our customers for their patience while we do our best to attend to the requests as quickly as possible. Due to the high call volumes, we ask customers to please submit requests via SMS and email, rather than telephonically via the call centre,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy and Climate Change, Councillor Phindile Maxiti.
